Ways To Cure a Cold Without Medication

Many people are interested in healing their bodies completely naturally without the intervention of medicine, especially pregnant women because medicine can hurt the growing fetus. Of course, advertisements will have us think we need to take over-the-counter medications in order to cure our symptoms. However, the good news is that it's not necessary. There are healthy, all natural ways to heal the body and cure a cold without medication. Below, we have outlined a few methods.

Blow Your Nose Often

Don't sniffle. Blow! Get all the nasty germs out of you as often as possible. The more you blow, the quicker your body will rid itself of the virus. Be sure to wash your hands every time.

Inhale Steam

If you haven't yet, you should consider investing in a humidifier. Adding some moisture to the air is helpful when combating a cold. If you don't have a humidifier, boil some water on the stove and hover your face over the steam. This will help open up your sinuses. Another way to get the steam flowing is to heat water in a towel and place that over your face to breathe in.

Use a Saline Solution

Once you get your nose to where it's not completely clogged, you can begin using a Neti Pot. It looks like a little tea pot that you will with warm water and a sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate solution and let it drain in one nostril and out the other. It relieves allergy and sinus symptoms.

Drink Plenty of Water

Be sure to stay hydrated while you are sick by drinking extra water than usual. Avoid sugary drinks like soda or juice because that will cause inflammation. Also, avoid caffeine. Sipping hot herbal teas will help you stay hydrated and warm.

Eat Healthy Foods

Avoid sugary foods because that causes further inflammation, which will make your cold worse. Instead, load up on inflammation-fighting looks, like garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, green leafy vegetables, nuts, fatty fish and citrus fruits. Of course, chicken noodle soup is the best food for curing a cold.

Stay Warm

Have a cold? Get warm! Bundle up in layers and have a blanket or heating pad nearby. The warmer you are, the better you will feel and quicker you will recover as your body fights off the cold virus.

Gargle Salt Water

Often times, when we get a cold, our throats get sore from breathing through our mouths. If this happens, try gargling salt water using warm water. It's soothing and kills bacteria in the back of your throat.
